At least two Indian climbers were killed on Mount Kanchenjunga in Taplejung district while one Chilean mountaineer has gone missing.
Two Indian nationals breathed their last in the Camp 4 set up at an altitude of of 8000 meters Wednesday night According to director of Peak Promotion, trekking and mountaineering agency, Pasang Sherpa.
Sherpa informed that the deceased are 47-year-old Biplav Baidya and 45-year-old Kulapal Kannaj. According to him, Baidya breathed his last while he was returning after ascending Mount Kanchenjunga, whereas Kulapal died while he was climbing the mountain.
“Both the climbers were suffering altitude sickness. Sherpas tried their best to bring both of them to the camp. But they died,” Pasang said, “The Sherpas then went to the camp leaving the bodies there.”
The bodies of deceased are still at the site of incident and attempts are being made to bring them down to the camp, informed Pasang.
Meanwhile, a Chilean national Rotriego Vivanco, who was descending from the mountain on Wednesday, has also gone missing.
“He said that he was returning from the summit after reaching atop Mountain Kanchenjunga but he is still out of contact,” Pasang said.
