Police have arrested 11 nurses of Human Organ Transplant Center, Bhaktapur who were on a hunger strike for eight days.
Nurse at the center Rimsha Karki said her colleagues were arrested at eight Friday morning. The nurses had stopped working after the administration ignored their demands.
The nurses were demanding tests like X-ray and others be conducted at the center itself, resolution of the complaints of patients, reconciliation of the nurse to patient ratio, opening of Public Service Commission vacancies for all human resources at the center, and priority to the nurses and staffers working since its establishment among others.
They had started the protest program since April 24 after submitting the demands.
They had started hunger strike, with one nurse Vikky Sherpa on fast-unto-death, eight days ago. Karki claimed that they stopped working after Sherpa's health deteriorated.
The police intervened and arrested 11 nurses after the nurses virtually shut down the center.
