Police opens fire to arrest man for extorting rural municipality chair

Police have opened fire to take a person under control at Bijeshwori Housing in Swoyambhu on Friday.
Milan Tamang (aka Lopsang) of Manthali municipality in Ramechhap had demanded Rs 20 million from Chairman of Likhu rural municipality in the district Govinda Khadka, and threatened to kill him for failing to do so.
A team of Metropolitan Police Crime Division fired two shots on Tamang’s knees to arrest him. Chief of the division SSP Sahakul Thapa said the police team opened fire as Tamang ran away on seeing the police.
Tamang has been taken to the Trauma Center of Bir Hospital for treatment.
