KMC staffer arrested on charge of raping 11-year-old girl

A Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) staffer has been arrested on charge of raping an 11-year-old girl.
Babu Raj Pujari, 52, of Kathmandu-17 was arrested by a team of Metropolitan Police Circle, Singha Durbar Saturday afternoon on charge of raping the girl. Pujari is chief of sweepers at KMC.
DSP with Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu Habindra Bogati said investigation has been started against Pujari after acquiring judicial custody from the Kathmandu District Court.
The girl has been taken to Patan Hospital for health check-up and is being kept under judicial consultation.
KMC staffers say Pujari had entered the old building of KMC on a motorcycle with the girl and her younger brother Saturday noon. He took the girl to the office of the trade union affiliated to Nepali Congress (NC) inside the building and raped her.
He was arrested after her brother complained with the policemen deployed at the gate of KMC.
The police brought the girl at the KMC during office hours to file crime scene report. “We knew about the incident only after police came with the girl,” a female staffer with KMC said. “We are feeling insecure after rape inside KMC premises.”
The police have yet to reveal how Pujari took the girl to KMC premises.
