Nine persons including the singer involved in filming burning of the national flag have been arrested.
A Youtube channel named Mongol Hop had released the music video titled Deshdrohi on Monday. Singer Geljang Dorje Tamang Tamang is seen burning the national flag in the video.
Different police units had intensified search for those involved in making the music video on Tuesday. The Nepal Police issuing a statement on Wednesday said nine persons have been arrested until now while search is on for others involved in making the video.
Chief of the Metropolitan Police Crime Division SSP Dipak Thapa said the arrested persons will be tried for crime against the state, cyber crime and burning national flag. He added that the nine persons have been sent to the Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu for additional investigation.
The police had initiated investigation after widespread condemnation of the video. The video seems to have been filmed at Sri Bishnu Aadharbhut School of Salleni in Bagmati rural municipality 3, Makwanpur.
The Criminal Code 2017 prohibits insult and destruction of national anthem and national flag. It has a provision of three years of imprisonment or fine of Rs 30,000 or both for anyone involved in such acts.
