The government is bringing strict legislation to punish those involved in acid attacks.
Prime Minister (PM) KP Sharma Oli has instructed law minister and other bodies concerned to prepare draft for the ordinance to take action against those involved in such inhumane and grave crimes, according to his press advisor Surya Thapa.
The new legislation will also have provision requiring those guilty to bear the expenses for treatment of the victims and reparation for them by freezing their assets.
PM Oli talked with 12 victims of acid attacks on Thursday. He said that arrangements for treatment of all victims of acid attacks at the Bir Hospital and the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital will be made, and the government will bear the treatment expenses.
He assured that the government will make arrangements for free education of victims of acid attacks if they wish to study. There are currently 19 known victims of 17 acid attacks in Nepal.
