The Nepal Bar Association (NBA) on Friday has urged Dr Govinda KC to not put pressure on the judiciary through fast-unto-death.
Issuing a press statement after holding a meeting to take stock of the recent developments following arrest of Dr KC on contempt of court case, it has also urged Dr KC to end his hunger strike stating that all kinds of pressure and influence on the independent judiciary is undesirable.
It has also taken exception to the method of dissent adopted by Dr KC. The NBA has drawn attention of all stakeholders concerned to use of indecent language and demand of resignation of chief justice (CJ) when the Supreme Court (SC) gives a verdict one does not want, and use of fast-unto-death as a tool to put pressure for fulfillment of the demand.
Dr KC, recording his statement with the SC on Tuesday, had raised questions about qualification of CJ Gopal Parajuli, and claimed that Parajuli has two citizenship certificates.
The SC asked for the file about CJ Parajuli's citizenship and educational certificates as demanded by Dr KC while recording his statement to the SC.
The NBA has welcomed the SC's decision on Wednesday to release Dr KC on date but has not spoken about whether CJ Parajuli should continue to set up bench after the SC has started investigation of his citizenship and educational certificates.
Dr KC, who started his 14th fast-unto-death for dismissal of CJ Parajuli on Monday, was arrested by the police Monday evening after the SC ordered his arrest for contempt of court.
