Writ filed at Supreme Court seeking to stop border dispute

A writ petition has been filed at the Supreme Court on Tuesday seeking a court order to promptly stop the disputes over the no-man's land on the Nepal-India border in the tarai and the mountainous and hilly areas of Nepal bordering with India. Advocate Yagyamani Neupane filed the writ which has named the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Home Affairs, among other government bodies as the defendants. The writ petition has demanded that the Supreme Court immediately issue a stay order to stop the border demarcation works. The petitioner has argued that the country will suffer an irreparable damage if the encroachment of the border was not stopped as there were chances of losing the Nepali territory that has been encroached upon by the Indian side. Moreover, the writ petition states that since there are frequent dispute over territory at the border area, the Constitution of Nepal has not given the authority to anyone to alter the country's border.
