Unified party changes name after EC refuses to register as CPN underlined

Seeks registration as Communist Party of Nepal (CPN)

The party formed after unification of the then CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Center) will now add CPN inside brackets after the Election Commission (EC) refused to register it as Communist Party of Nepal underlined.
The EC had urged the party to correct its name citing registering it as Communist Party of Nepal underlined would set a wrong precedent when Communist Party of Nepal was already registered with the EC. The party is now seeking to get registered as Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) after the EC’s suggestion, according to leader Dev Gurung who has been delegated the task of party registration.
The party has already submitted the signature of central committee members, copies of their citizenship certificates, party statute and other necessary documents to the EC. The EC said it is studying the documents for registration.
The act related to political parties states that any party should be registered within 45 days of applying at the EC for registration.
The unified party had applied at the EC for registration on May 17 on the day the two parties unified.
Communist Party of Nepal is already registered at the EC with Rishi Ram Kattel as the chairman.
