Nepal Army (NA) will participate in the joint military exercises of
the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Corporation (BIMSTEC) held in Pune of India as observer.
NA was earlier set to take part in the joint military exercise but the government instructed to not participate in the eleventh hour after widespread criticism.
A team of three NA personnel had already gone to Pune for the military exercise and the trio will participate as observers, according to the NA. "Three personnel who had gone in advance are there. They will probably return only after the military exercise," NA Spokesperson Brigadier General Gokul Bhandari told Setopati.
A team of 30 including five officers were earlier set to take part in the military exercise but the government on Saturday had decided to not take part in it.
