The process for the formation of good governance committee has not gained any momentum at local levels in Banke.
Though the country has been already into federal practices, the local governments here have deliberately remained reluctant to take ahead the good governance campaign.
Public hearing is a far cry even the good governance committee has not been constituted in any of the eight local governments in Banke.
The committee which needs to be formed under local government chief has not been in existence at local level of the district.
There is a provision that the committee comprises representatives from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, civil society, Federation of Nepali Journalists and intellectuals.
The government had issued a circular to all local levels to form good governance committee with the objective of maintaining fiscal good governance, making public service delivery pro-people and promoting good governance practices as part of the local government.
However, the local governments here have been adamant for not abiding by the circular in practice.
With no good governance committee in place at local level, the task of monitoring transparency and accountability of investments made in development works is not being carried out.
However, Kohalpur Municipality Mayor Lut Bahadur Rawat said that the committee formation is being delayed due to lack of laws for the same.
The good governance committee is important but has not been put in place in Nepalgunj Sub-metropolis to the date, shared Deputy Mayor Uma Thapa Magar.
