CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli has refuted the talks of unification with CPN (Maoist Center) on November 25.
Addressing an election rally in his home district Jhapa on Sunday, he said he heard about the rumors for the first time through the media. "I heard the rumors this morning. Comrades called me and asked if party unification is on November 25. I said 'I don't know. What has happened?'" he relayed what happened in the morning. "I then called Prachanda (sic) and told him about the reported unification on November 25. He also laughed it away," he added.
He clarified that there is no plan for immediate unification, and added that unification process will be moved forward after the elections. He claimed that the rumors have been spread to again spread rumors on November 26 saying the parties failed to unite on November 25.
"They create fictions, read them and then listen to that themselves," he stated. "Comrades call me saying unification is on November 25. The newspapers and television stations carry that. The news is read early in the morning saying unification is planned for November 25…It is baffling!" he rued.
UML and Moist Center have forged a left alliance for the upcoming federal and provincial elections with an eventual plan of unification. The parties have also formed a coordination committee for unification.
