Shelters have been constructed and handed over to the flood affected people of Bharatpur Metropolitan City, Ward No. 27 and 28 in west Chitwan.
The houses were constructed with the support of the Chitwan Society Japan. The Society collected more than Rs 400,000 from Nepalis living and working in Japan.
Ten houses were constructed with this amount and the rest of the cost was met from local voluntary labour. The houses were constructed with the coordination of the Chitwan Youth Group International Coordination Committee.
The shelters were handed over to the flood victims on Wednesday. It took five months to construct the houses.
Speaking on the occasion, Mayor of Bharatpur Metropolitan City, Renu Dahal expressed happiness over the support provided by Nepalis living in Japan. She urged the people from the Chitwan district abroad to actively support the development of the metropolis.
Chitwan Youth Group International Coordination Committee, Nepal president Mukti Prasad Adhikari said the first tranche of the support has been utilized to construct shelters for the flood affected people of the two Wards of the metropolis and the next tranche of support would be used for constructing shelters for the flood victims in other places in the district.
