China Railway 25th Bureau Group will conduct feasibility study for monorail in the Ring Road in Kathmandu Valley.
Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Bidya Sundar Shakya and General Manager of the Chinese company Li Hongqi signed an agreement to that regard on Friday.
The company had submitted letter of intent on May 3 after KMC invited companies for feasibility study of the project.
The company will study about financial and technical aspects, and sustainability of operating monorail, and recommend the appropriate alternatives.
Speaking during the program Mayor Shakya reiterated his commitment to operating monorail during his term. "It has been a year since we said we will operate monorail. Work can be started once the rules are complied with," he stated. "It will not take much time once work is started. We are in that direction."
The company will submit report within six months.
The company will bear all the cost of the study and KMC will be free to choose other companies to develop the project if it is indeed feasible.
