Death toll in the bus accident in Gajuri-5, Bangemode of Dhading district Saturday morning has reached 31.
Twenty-nine of the deceased passengers have been identified while two bodies have yet to be identified. The passenger bus (Na 6 Kha 1467) coming to Kathmandu from Rajbiraj had plunged into Trishuli river at around 5:30 Saturday morning unable to take a turn in the serpentine highway.
Sixteen persons were found injured at the bank of Trishuli river and were admitted at Gajuri Hospital. Two of them have been referred to Kathmandu for treatment.
The bus had picked 15 passengers coming from Rajbiraj in another bus (Na 6 Kha 1466) of the same company from Hetauda.
The police have concluded that the accident occurred due to high speed. "The passengers had even urged the driver to not drive so quickly," Inspector at the Area Police Office, Gajuri Barun Singh said. The bus driver has absconded.
